fresh start//my life//the biz
Since I launched CarolineRo a few years ago, I've been juggling many hats, many of which I haven't shared here. I've been a wedding photographer, a church nursery employee, the art coordinator for The A21 Campaign and a full-time student at The College of Charleston. As of this past Saturday, I am officially a College of Charleston alum having graduated with a bachelors of science in psychology! There's so much I could say about the past four years--about how I've experienced community in an invaluable way and about how I've gained an immense appreciation for mental disease and the importance to break the stigma behind it but I think those thoughts are for another post. I know that these experiences have helped determine who I am as a photographer, why I tell stories and also why I support what I do (click here to read about how I support To Write Love On Her Arms if you already haven't). I am beyond thankful that I have been able to receive a (good!) education while simultaneously working a job that I love in a city that seems to draw in engaged couples. Of course, it doesn't hurt that where I live is surreally beautiful and filled with arts, culture and so much more.
So how does this affect CarolineRo? Well, it only does so in good ways. Yesterday was the first official day of being a full-time wedding photographer and I am so excited, thankful, proud, gosh...simply overwhelmed with goodness, about this new season. Some changes that will be happening:
I now have the time to share more about the business side of CarolineRo, more photography, more personal thoughts and the in-between
In the next few weeks, I'll begin working on a brand spankin new ShowIt site that I am so excited about. I have been (beyond) convinced by so many ShowIteers that Showit is the way to go. For those non photogs out there, watch this quick video to see what ShowIt is all about-I believe in their mantra so much. This beautiful site designed by the fab Waterfall Creative will remain as my blog
I've learned how important it is to shoot personal work amidst working with clients. I love collaborating with others so if you ever have an idea-whether it be involving yourself or something more editorial/artistic-send it my way. More than likely, I'll be excited to make it happen
I have my first non-Southern wedding this fall in Bellingham, WA and I couldn't be more excited. Now that I'm not tied down with school, I am busting at the seams to travel more! I'll be writing another post about it soon but this is me announcing that CarolineRo is going national. (!!!) So tell your cousin, your roommate's boyfriend, your mailman and the neighbor you just met that I'm now accepting clients beyond Charleston. Gosh, I can't wait to see what comes of it.
This is somewhat intertwined with traveling but I'm hoping to become more of an adventurer, to tell better stories with my photos, my relationships and my time. Sharon Clark of Smitten Photography said in this article "I can't help but believe that our lives were not designed for anything less than adventure" and geez, I couldn't agree more!
So here I go! I'm so excited and can't wait to share this new season with you all! I'll leave you with a quote from one of my favorite authors, Donald Miller.
"We live in a world where bad stories are told, stories that teach us life doesn't mean anything and that humanity has no great purpose. It's a good calling, then, to speak a better story. How brightly a better story shines. How easily the world looks to it in wonder. How grateful we are toe hear these stories, and how happy it makes us to repeat them"
